Primate Nursery

I tried to keep this one a little simple and playful by showcasing real primates, but painting them with nonrealistic colors - so we have a pink capuchin, purple lemur, blue gorilla, peach bush baby and a green monkey! I hope you enjoy it!

While staying at my Aunt's house in Albuquerque, I painted a large wall in the entryway. It's probably 20 feet high, so I couldn't get a picture that reveals the whole scene - but I'm sure you get the idea. It's a simple bamboo grove in warm grays. The goal was to give the wall some decoration without clashing with the bare-bones modern aesthetic of the house.

Baby Mice Camping for the second time

Hooray! I got some better quality photos of the mice scene from my first post:

Rainforest Mural

This mural was too big to photograph in one shot, so I've included a bunch of detail shots here. Some of the animals were based on Jan Brett's The Umbrella. The trees and thick vegetation wrap around the bedroom's corner and onto the ceiling.

WIC Clinic Kid's Corner

So WIC, I'm just discovering, is a government agency that provides nutritional info and baby food stamps for women, infants and children. They opened a new clinic in Liverpool and I made a picnic scene to play up their Eat Healthy mantra! The characters were based on Eric Rohmann's amazing woodcuts in My Friend Rabbit.

I remembered to take some progress shots this time. :)

Here I painted Artemis, Goddess of the hunt, in a funny behind the door spot (sorry for the crazy picture quality) and I put a scene of Grecian ruins on the adjacent wall.

Bellevue Heights Nursery School Murals

Here are some of the murals I've painted at Bellevue Heights Nursery School. I tried to imitate Eric Carle's wonderful layering of colors in a hungry caterpillar reading corner.

These painted frames are put in the writing corner (hence the criss-crossing pencils). Poster's devoted to the "child of the week" are hung within the frames - showing off drawings and pictures of the lucky student!

The sunflowers are painted by the front door. I painted inches climbing up one stalk so that the teachers can measure students' heights easily.

I painted a fun tree, full of birds and squirrels in the "Quiet Room". The grassy meadow makes a good disguise for ugly radiators.

Here's a fun African savanna themed mural, painted in a little boy's bedroom. I had quite an interesting time filling in the funky shaped corner. The end result was really fantastic, since the tree seems to lean over the child as he lays in bed.

Baby Mice Camping

Here is a sweet little mural of three mice camping, painted in the room of a newly born girl. It is based on Katherine Holabird's Angelina Ballerina book series. The baby's two older brother's played art directors while I painted this image of their sister - requesting specific colors and drawing sketches with me.
